Meet Belinda of Bel Learning
Hi, I’m Belinda
I was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, and have called Prince George home since 1993. My husband and I have been married for nearly 30 years, and together we've raised five wonderful children, most of whom are now grown. One of the greatest privileges of my life has been home educating our family for 23 years, an experience that taught me that every child learns differently, and that learning should never be a one-size-fits-all experience.
Like many parents, I know what it feels like to search for answers when a child is struggling to learn. Early in our homeschooling journey, three of my children benefited from the Vantage Vision & Reading Program, which opened my eyes to the incredible difference that individualized, body-based programs can make. Those experiences changed not only my children's learning journeys, but my own.
My neurodivergent son has been one of my greatest teachers. Through him, I have gained a deep appreciation for the many ways people think, process information, and experience the world. He has taught me patience, compassion, creativity, and the importance of looking beyond traditional approaches to find what truly helps each learner thrive.
Today, I bring both my professional training and my personal experience to every student I work with. I believe children deserve instruction that is systematic, explicit, encouraging, and tailored to their individual needs while maintaining high standards for learning.
I have almost completed my training in EBLI (Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction), a science-backed speech-to-print approach to reading, spelling, and writing. Rather than relying on memorization alone, EBLI builds strong literacy foundations by helping students understand how spoken language connects to print. Instruction is carefully scaffolded so each learner experiences success while developing the simultaneous processing skills that support confident reading, accurate spelling, and effective writing.
I also provide systematic instruction in creative writing, helping students organize their ideas, develop confidence, and discover that writing can become an enjoyable way to communicate and express themselves.
Nothing excites me more than seeing the growing body of learning science and reading science transform the way we teach children. We know so much more today about how the brain learns, and I feel honoured to be part of this exciting movement toward instruction that is both evidence-based and deeply personalized. Every child deserves to experience success, confidence, and the joy of learning.
Outside the Tutoring Room
When I'm not working with students, you'll usually find me in my garden, where I've happily grown flowers and vegetables since I was a teenager. I love reading, especially history, biology, health, learning, and a good work of fiction. I enjoy running, picking wild berries in the summer, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and spending time outdoors with family and friends.
Helping children discover that they can learn, and watching confidence replace frustration, is one of the greatest joys of my work. I would be honoured to be part of your child's learning journey.
